As an intern in the distant past, I remember a gynecologist who regularly made rounds at 2 PM. Approximately 1 hour before his appearance on the floor, the nurses began to scramble and prepare. At 2 PM, they were "standing tall." General Patton and certainly Waldo Nelson would not have precipitated such activity. As pediatricians, do we need or desire that kind of sycophantic behavior? Of course not, but I believe that we deserve more respect than we are currently receiving.
At the risk of being superfluous, I note that we are on the low end of the pay scale. Those of you who have perspired over the 2-week-old infant with fever or the apneic newborn wonder why.
